Laboratory Services FAQ

Do I need a doctor’s order to get lab tests done?

No. Our clinic has a provider that oversees the testing performed and the results. However, if you have orders for blood tests from your physician we would be happy to perform those as well.

How long does it take to get my results?

Most results are available in 3-4 days. However, turn-around-times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference laboratory that performs the testing may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmatory/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.

How will I receive my test results?

Medical Weight Loss Specialists of Bismarck follows all HIPAA guidelines regarding the distribution of test results. You can choose to have your results mailed, faxed, picked up at the clinic, or sign up to view them online. Written consent is required to provide a copy of your test results to any person other than you.

What if I can’t find the test I’m looking for?

If there is a test you would like performed that is not listed, please call the clinic at 701.354.0964 for test availability and pricing.

Do you accept insurance as a form of payment?

MWLS of Bismarck does not accept medical insurance at this time.

What does it mean if I need to be “fasting” for my test?

If a test requires you to be fasting, you should not eat or drink anything (except water) for 9-12 hours prior to having your blood drawn.

After the sample is collected, if I decide to cancel the test, can I be refunded?

No. While we strive to provide the best customer service, after the sample has been collected and sent to the laboratory, we will be unable to provide a refund.

What is the difference between a laboratory and a draw center?

A laboratory is a facility where specimens are analyzed by qualified laboratory personnel. Tests are performed on highly technical, scientific equipment and results are reviewed by experts before being finalized. Medical Weight Loss Specialists of Bismarck is partnered with a laboratory that is properly accredited and certified to perform highly complex testing.

A draw center is a location where testing is ordered and the sample is collected, processed, and sent to the performing laboratory. Medical Weight Loss Specialists of Bismarck is a draw center.

What types of samples can be tested and how are they collected?

While many types of biological specimens can be tested, we provide testing for blood samples only. These samples are collected by routine venipuncture, where trained personnel will use a needle to collect blood from a vein in your arm.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. We know your time is valuable; by scheduling an appointment, it will ensure the least amount of wait time to have your blood drawn.

How do I interpret my test results?

Test results are provided in an easy to read format that states whether the result is within normal range. Any abnormal results should be discussed with your primary care provider.

Who should I call if I have questions about my results?

If you have questions about the details, application or components of a test, feel free to ask the personnel at Medical Weight Loss Specialists of Bismarck. However, we do not interpret, diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions. If you are concerned about your results, we encourage you to discuss them with your primary physician.
